Lost Something in a DiDi or Taxi in China? What to Do
Open the completed trip in the app you used and look for its lost-item or support option as soon as possible. Keep the trip details and describe the item clearly; for a street taxi, gather the receipt, vehicle details and pickup route. ChinaSide can help contact reachable local parties and coordinate return if the item is found.
When this page is for you
- You left luggage, a phone or another item in a ride.
- You cannot explain the problem to the driver in Chinese.
- You used a taxi without an accessible app record.
- You have moved cities or left China.
What you can try yourself first
- Use the ride app’s official trip support or lost-item process; menus vary by app and version.
- Save the trip time, pickup and drop-off points, receipt and vehicle details you have.
- Describe the item and where it was left without posting personal trip details publicly.
- If the item is found, agree a safe return method and any transport or courier costs before arranging it.
Where international visitors often get stuck
In-app contact may be time-limited, a masked phone number may no longer connect, and the driver or support agent may speak only Chinese. A local call still needs an accessible contact channel.
What to send ChinaSide
- Trip screenshot or taxi receipt
- Time, city, route and reachable driver contact
- Item description or photo
- Current location and preferred return method
Send booking and tracking details privately on WhatsApp. Share only what is needed for the task; never send passwords or verification codes.
How ChinaSide can help
We contact the driver or relevant local party where reachable, explain the lost item, confirm what was found and coordinate an agreed return. Recovery is not guaranteed; official identification or security matters may require your direct involvement.
Send the situation first. We confirm feasibility, scope and price before starting.
