Changing a parcel delivery address in China without a Chinese phone number.
Two parcels were already out for delivery to an old Guangzhou hotel. The customer was outside China, had no Chinese phone number, and needed the courier to use a new hotel address.
The situation
The customer was outside China and had bought two items through ZZER and sent them to a friend’s hotel in Guangzhou. The friend later changed hotels, but the parcels had already reached Guangzhou and entered the delivery process using the original address.
Because the customer did not have a Chinese phone number, the courier could not reach them.
The problem
The shipment still used the old hotel address, while the overseas customer had no Chinese phone number for delivery communication.
What ChinaSide did
- Contacted the SF Express courier handling the delivery
- Provided the tracking numbers for both parcels
- Sent the friend’s new Guangzhou hotel address
- Explained the hotel change and coordinated the new delivery instructions in Chinese
The result
Both parcels were successfully delivered to the new address the next day.
This case is anonymized. No customer phone number, name, hotel, tracking number, or private conversation is published.
What this case shows
The missing step was local courier communication: the customer already had the tracking numbers and new address. A local person could explain the change and coordinate delivery. This outcome does not guarantee rerouting for every parcel.
